O.S.P: How do you deal with the competition for acting jobs in a big city like London?

Y.Z: You have to enjoy your life, you can’t wait for the jobs to come. I’m trans, so there haven’t been a lot of roles for me, but consistency is key. I mean, it took me 10 years to get my first TV job, I only did theatre before that. You’re treated a bit like shit when you first come into the acting world, passion got me through it. I see myself as an artist who is very passionate about

working with other artists that I admire. So yes, of course there is competition, but for me it’s more about collaboration. Also, knowing when to value yourself enough to say no to a job you don’t believe in.

0.S.P: Did acting help you with your gender transition?

Y.Z: No it didn’t, I think it’s very hard to enter the industry coming from a marginalised group. I could get a role as a cis man without people knowing I’m trans, and that’s fine. What they also don’t know is that I had to work a lot harder and prove myself to get that role.
